The term full-stack is often tossed around in programmers community, but what exactly this mysterious words mean?

Full-stack development straddle two separate web development domains: the front-end and the back-end.

Full stack development includes all the user interface issues and everything what is behind the scenes. Full stack developer is a real hero in a coding world. It is highly demanded from him to maintain servers, databases, apis and also graphics, layout, etc.

The dilemma

The common way of thinking is like:

if you focus on everything, you will be doing everything average. You focus on one thing, you will be the master of doing this one concrete thing.

Why I think it is not totally true in a context of development?

Development is a complex process which connects frontend and backend parts of an application. The frontend developer can do his job in parallel with backend developer, but in the end it requires connection.

Then the good understanding of an idea is crucial. As a full stack developer I can make an app starting with UI, and finishing with backend very smooth. Components are build with an idea for future backend usage. There is no misunderstanding between two different kind of developers. It results with more optimized application and less lines of code, but probably takes more time.

Perfect solution is to cooperate with another full stack developer, each one understands pretty good entire process of development. They can quickly review each part of a project, improve and decrease amount of lines in the code. The result can be incredibly good and effective.

What about mastering so many technologies?

Generally, it is better to focus on one technology and be consistent with getting acquainted with new improvements.

The perfect solution is mastering JavaScript. When I started learning web development, I was about mastering HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Then it was extremely easy to familiarize with React. After building many frontend apps, I decided to be independent and jumped into backend.

JavaScript skill was super helpful, because as a backend technology you can use it with node.js and build full stack apps with one programming language.

one language, complex development.

What else left to become a beginner full-stack developer? Learning usage of a database and connecting it with an app. Moreover, deploying entire platform to make it functional.

Very basic and fundamental skill of maintaining databases can be possessed with a lot less amount of time, than learning a new programming language. When you can create very big and useful applications, you improve very fast and become a successful full stack developer.

Every project makes you more “hungry” of creating more complex app. It leads to a perfect and fluent combination of frontend and backend skills.

Top stacks in development

Stacks are the gathered technologies which are used in a full-stack development.

It includes frontend and backend technologies. The most famous are:

  • MERN: MongoDB, express js, React js and node js.
  • MEAN: mongoDB, express js, Angular and node js.
  • MEVN: mongoDB, express js, Vue js and node js.
  • LAMP: Linux, Apache, MySQL and php.

What are the advantages of becoming full stack developer?

  • Very high demand,

The demand for full stack developers is increasing every year with an enormous scale. It is not regretted to learn that.

  • Excellent payment,

As it is required from full stack developers to learn both skills: frontend and backend development, it is pretty fair to earn more money than single, frontend or backend developer.

  • Creative flexibility,

Knowledge of a complex development leads to amazing control over building project. You supervise entire app, so it is super easy to improve and implement some features.

  • Better productivity,

So wide variety of knowledge improve decision making, productivity is boosted when you know what and how to code solutions on both sides.

Conclusion

The full stack development is an overall process of creating an app with combining frontend and backend sides.

It is not super easy, but possible to master full stack development, for example using one programming language for frontend and backend development, which is JavaScript.

There are many stacks, but the most common and famous are: MERN, MEAN, MEVN and LAMP.

The advantages of full-stack development are: very high demand, excellent payment, creative flexibility and better productivity.
